May 2012 Meeting Recap

The "May" meeting was held on June 2nd as the meeting's normal day (the last Saturday of te month) fell on Memorial Day weekend. In spite of the date change nine members, including Mark's wife Abby, were able to attend. The agenda included a Baloney Shop from the past (there haven't been any new ones lately), two episodes from Panama by way of Halfthrottle, our resident gringo, and a couple videos on packing for camping and riding in the rain, useful topics for the pending overnight ride to Cherohala and the Smokies.

Larry volunteered to be "ride master" for the Cherohala-Smoky ride as Bob S. will be recouping from eye surgery that weekend. At this time it looks as if three riders are definitely planning to go while three others are trying to work it out. If less than four go Larry may change the ride to a one-day ride to Cherohala. Time will tell.

After the meeting eight riders on seven motorcycles rode over to a  BBQ place on Highway 369 just off GA 372 that shall remain nameless, not because it's no good (it was great), but because I don't recall its name and it apparently doesn't have a web-site that I can find. If you want to give it a try take GA 369 going east to the stop at GA 372 and proceed past the stop about 200 yds. It will be on the left, kind of hidden behind some equipment and such. Worth the trip.

After lunch we took a ride (it was perfect motorcycling weather) through "banjo country" on roads that often shrunk to one lane with one way bridges over several branches, then out to some country roads in north and west Cherokee. A great afternoon ride, just short of a hundred miles, on traffic-free roads that most of the riders didn't know existed.

A great afternoon.
