Meeting Recap- July 28, 2012
Gerald rode over on his son's Honda 250 to join a handful of regular attendees for the July meeting of TLCMC. Welcome to the world that moves on two wheels.
The meeting kicked off with what may be the last episode of Lutheran Hour Ministries' Baloney Shop. Pastor Klaus has retired and there has been no talk of a replacement yet (as if one is possible). Following Klaus they got a few laughs watching a Baptist Music Director's attempt to adapt Leaning On The Everlasting Arms to the music styles popular through the decades from the nineteen forties on. A lot of fun.
They had a chance to look at, and discuss, two incidents where ABS did not work to the rider's advantage. One was on a dirt/gravel surface, the other a long downhill dirt stretch. In both cases the rider would have been better off turning ABS off. Captain Crash also gave the group a couple of safety reminders regarding lane positioning and u-turns in traffic.
The discussion moved on to the ride scheduled for August 11th. This ride will take in the sights at three stops along the way. The first will be at Traveler's Rest:
From there they will ride over to South Carolina and stop at Bull Sluice:
After lunch in Clayton they plan to ride south to Tallulah Gorge:
Total mileage is expected to be around 225 miles.
The meeting's discussion then turned to the Vintage Motorcycle Festival at Barber Motorsports barbervintagefestival.org/
Steve and Dan are planning to attend this event. If you think you'd like to join them let them know. They plan to purchase tickets very soon as it has been sold out on prior occasions
After the meeting most of the group rode over to Family Traditions in Hickory Flat for lunch on the veranda and a lot of friendly discussion.
