Meeting Recap-August 25, 2012

In spite of a number of the riders being roped into lingering summer obligations there were seven at the meeting including "first timer" Robert L. who rode with us on the 10th on his pristine new Harley. Paul, who rode in on his newly acquired Harley, joined mid session to bring the count to eight.

After a few tense moments trying to establish an Internet connection through the church's WiFi, they were hooked up and kicked off the meeting with the latest episode of LHM's Baloney Shop. This was followed by a short video that had more than one of the guys reflecting on how things used to be, and are no longer. This video is below in case you'd like to give it a gander.

The ride for September 15th was then discussed. It was decided to go with the suggested variation to the Long Loop that would allow some riders to split off in Dial and follow Forest Service Roads to relink with the others in Suches. After Suches one of three routes could be chosen, one "straight" down 60 to Dahlonega, the other two over Wolf Pen Gap and down either US 129 or the Richard Russell. This can be decided on the day of the ride while in Suches.

Captain Crash's lessons on passing eighteen wheelers and u-turning on an incline prompted considerable discussion, as did a few videos of cars and bikes on Mulholland Drive. Two of these can be seen in the Weblink area under Face Plants.

Other Weblinks were also shown so the newer folks had a chance to see some of the "Award Winners" from prior meetings.

The meeting closed before noon and six of the guys rode over to Hot Dog Heaven to have lunch on the veranda. Guess who got the humongous Al Capone?
