September 25th Meeting Recap
We met this day at Timothy, and the meeting ran overtime because of the discussion we had when Bob K. went over the details of the trip he, his brother Tom, and a friend took out west last month. We heard of their 960 mile days with forced stops at 100 mile increments due to unexpected high fuel consumption at their barely subsonic speeds in the wide open spaces. They encountered heavy winds in Wyoming causing leaned-over riding for hours, wind gusts pushing their bikes into adjacent lanes, and thunder storms that could be seen, but took hours to hit, then were gone. This, along with photos and description of visits to Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, the Black Hills, Mount Rushmore as well as a week in Sturgis, camping with 20,000 among a total crowd of about 400,000 held everyone's interest. Quite an event and quite an adventure. 5000 miles in, if I recall correctly, 11 days. Thanks Bob for letting us "join you".
We also took a look at some British advertising aimed at making motorists more aware of motorcyclists and a video version of SMIDSY, also from the U.K.
The group was made aware of some web-link additions to our site, including a recent add "all about gasoline". You are encouraged to give this site a look -see, not only for this companion to "all about oil", but as a source for a host of other articles by the same author. Read down his site's sidebar and I'm sure you'll find something of interest.
We also discussed our next ride and decided that on Saturday, October 23rd, we'll do the Cherokee History Ride: up to Fort Mountain, over to Vann House then down to New Echota. This is a shorter ride than most, perhaps 160 miles, with at least four stops, that should allow time to really explore the historic sites. You might want to consider taking your better half as pillion.
After the meeting three of us rode over to Silvia's for one of her fine hamburgers and some good talk.
Our next meeting will be October 30th.
