Goodbye July Meeting

We wrapped up the month with a meeting at Timothy, attended by all not on vacation, out of town or otherwise committed.  The tale of a couple stranded while  riding the Trans America Trail (TAT) was the topic of a lively discussion about the safest way to tow a motorcycle. The couple used a foot-peg to foot-peg attachment which the group agreed was not the way to go (see two bikes, one dead in Duct Tape and Bailing Wire).  Foot-peg to a break-free attachment to the steering stem was our preferred approach. What's more we concluded they could have avoided a tow if they had swapped batteries, ran the one down, then swapped again etc. Our Safety discussion centered on Riding In The Rain and Riding In The Heat. An outline for both these discussions can be found in Weblinks under Training.

Ride E (Dial, Blue Ridge, Suches, Blairsville etc.) is on for the 14th with an added feature. Those who wish to (so far Steve, Larry and Bob (the elder)) can go off road at Doublehead Gap and take a forest road over to Suches where we will meet those that follow the pavement up Aska Road and down Ga 60.

We decided to not have a meeting in August and scheduled our next ride (Fort Mountain, Vann House, New Echota etc.) for September 18th. We also discussed the possibility of a picnic, with family and other guests from Timothy, for late October at Fort Mountain. Those present thought it a good idea and a picnic shelter will be reserved for the event.

After the meeting seven of us rode over to the Little River Landing Grill on Lake Allatoona for humongous sandwiches and good fellowship. Frank and Bob (the elder)  rode over to Bartow County after lunch to cruise the backroads and dodge the storms. A hundred miles, two or so hours and we were home, dry. Didn't even have t break out the umbrella.
